VEE Wear User Guide

VEE Wear is an application framework for smartwatches and fitness trackers that run on a low-power microcontroller.

A Wear Kernel runs on the watch and hosts the applications. Each application is a sandboxed MicroEJ Feature that adds watchfaces, activities, or complications to the watch. The smartphone sends new applications to the watch over Bluetooth Low Energy, and the Kernel installs them without a firmware update.

The Kernel gives the applications access to the display, the health data, the device information, and the time. The navigation of the watch is also an application, so a device maker can change the user experience without changing the Kernel.

VEE Wear runs on RTOS-based wearable SoCs, such as the Actions ATS3085S.

Feature Overview

The diagram shows the parts of a VEE Wear device. The VEE Port and the BSP adapt the runtime to the hardware. VEE Wear adds the Kernel and the services that the sandboxed applications use. Features marked preview can change in the next releases.
